  • Bartholin, Thomas. Historiarum anatomicarum et medicarum rariorum (1661)
    • Note: This entry is an interesting example of some of Terence’s misleading citation practices. Here he makes it seem as though he is familiar with, well-read in, and able to cite obscure 17th Century medical manuscripts. However, his lack of page number citation and the fact that he cites an original text in Latin but provides a quotation in English belie the fact that he is not actually directly citing Bartholin (the correct citation of this manuscript would have been to Thomae Bartholini, as it is written there). Most likely, Terence found this translated citation in another text and simply pretended like it was his own original reference rather than doing the honest thing and citing his own actual source. It’s almost certain that Terence didn’t read and translate this passage from the original Latin text.
